New York Governor Paterson has declared a state of emergency in the hopes of speeding up repairs and getting more money to the people in the North Country who are affected by the closure of the Champlain Bridge. Many people say the closure has forced them to add hours to their commutes as there isn’t a bridge for miles that links the two states. But the DOT said it’s better to be safe than sorry.
This bridge that connects Crown Point New York and and Chimney Point, Vermont, is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. Experts say there are over one hundred bridges across New York State in serious need of repair. Also from CN9 in Albany
Here’s a thought. There’s all this unused stimulus out there that’s supposedly just sitting around somewhere. Now they have a chance to put some money toward something needful.
Chances are other states may be in the same shape. Forget about those proverbial bridges to nowhere. It’s time to fix all the bridges that really do go somewhere.
(Unless of course they want to use lottery money for it instead) 😉
